Bocas del Toro Survival Guide
Tropical Island travel and life takes some getting used to. It rains
nearly every day, bring wet gear but keep it light. What good does it
do you to have a rain coat and sweat so heavily under it that you are
soaking wet?
The sun can be unbearable so bring sun gear like a light strap on hat,
sunscreen and a surfers rash loose fitting white rash shirt. Bring sunglasses
and a good aloe based burn healing product.
Cell phone coverage is spotty so don't rely on that but there is a couple
places in Bocas proper to hit the phones and Internet. Bring a sturdy
knife if you can get away with it on the plane. Bring snorkeling gear
if you like the reefs. Surfboards are hard to come by though there is
good surfing around.
Be flexible, accommodating and keep your word. Locals don't like liars
any more than anyone else does. Pay in small bills of cash. Don't carry
more than a few hundred at a time and keep it in a sealed water proof
container or wallet.
For now, suffice it to say you will have the time of your life, bring
$20 a day for incidentals, a swimsuit, sunscreen, and a hat. Check the
weather as well.
